I’ve given to you in the previous video? Today, we’ll move to the IELTS Speaking
mock test with Food & Cooking topic to understand how to use these words and samples.
Now, let’s begin!!! Examiner: Good morning, what’s your full
name, please? Candidate: My full name is Kaisy Nguyen.
E: Could you please give me your ID card? C: Here it is.
E: Nice to meet you, my name is…, and I come from…
I’ll begin by asking you some questions about yourself.
Candidate: Yeap. E: What kinds of food do you like best?
C: Pears are my favorite fruit as they remind me of my childhood.
E: Do you like snacks? C: I don’t think that eating snack is good
for my health, and that’s why I’m not a fan of it.
E: How well do you cook? C: Actually, I make dinner for my family every
day so I’m quite confident with my cooking skill.
E: What is your idea of a perfect meal? C: I prefer a meal providing a range of health
benefits. I suppose that it’s good to eat rice with some boiled or fried vegetables
and some tasty meat. E: Thank you very much. Let’s move on cue
card topic. Here’s the question: I’d like you to speak on this topic in 2 minutes. Before
that, you have 1 minute to prepare. And here’s some paper and pen for you to make some notes
if you wish. Well, could you please begin. When I’m talking about food and cooking,
especially about someone who is good at this, I immediately think about my elder brother,
a well-known chef with a great number of delicious fish recipes. Moreover, I have to say that
he is a gifted cook, even when we were little. He always knows how to make different and
tasty foods from normal ingredients. When we were young, my brother usually stayed
in the kitchen and learned the cooking from my mother. Day after day, he was in charge
of cooking for my family every day and he loved to do it. When he grew up, instead of
going to the university, he decided to work in the kitchen of the hotels and restaurants
to get more experience and improve his cooking skill, which made my parents very sad. However,
by now, he is a restaurant owner and a chef as well. Fortunately, his restaurant is one
of the most famous restaurants in my city and we’re so proud of him.
Looking at his cooking makes me a feeling that we can make everything comes food. For
examples, I don’t like Indian and Thai food because they are pretty hot and spicy, but
my brother always finds out the way to make them delicious by adding my favorite fruits
such as avocado, mushroom and avoid using peppers. In addition, he’s good at making
us fat by making many incredible big creamy cakes. Besides, he can also make Chinese,
Japanese foods even he has never traveled to those countries nor has taken any training
on making those foods. It will always be a puzzle to me. Maybe, every success comes
from passion and effort. E: Thank you very much.
Let’s move on to discussion topic related to the food.
E: Is food in an expensive restaurant always better than food in a cheap restaurant?
C: Well, in my opinion, I just partly agree with this statement because there are many
cheap restaurants that are extremely popular, especially restaurants of traditional foods.
Moreover, I suppose that food is good or bad, it depends more on the chef, service or the
taste of the customer. However, I highly appreciate the quality of ingredients and decoration
in the expensive restaurants. E: Which do you think are more popular in
your country, traditional restaurants or fast food restaurants? Why do you think that is?
C: In my country, most of the people prefer traditional foods to fast foods, as a result,
there is more and more great and famous traditional restaurant appears. In contrast, it’s difficult
for people to find out the well-known branches of fast food such as KFC or Burger King in
my country. These restaurants just locate in shopping centers and they are never as
crowded as traditional restaurants. E: What effects has modern technology had
on the way food is produced? C: This is an interesting question! From my
point of view, technology is making an amazing change in human lives in general and in the
way of cooking in particular. In detail, thanks to technology, we have more and more equipment
for easier and faster cooking, such as food mixer, egg beater. Besides, we definitely
can find out the best recipe for cooking just by a click. Notably, technology plays an important
role in discovering the benefits of many types of food, which leading to the decision of
choosing good ingredients and foods. Therefore, people know how to eat well and live well.
E: How important is it for a country to grow all the food it needs, without importing any
from other countries? C: Well, in my opinion, if a country can grow
enough food for its own consumption, it’s absolutely great because it can save a large
amount of money from importing some types of foods with a priceless price. Moreover,
it’s easier to run and control the way of making or the quality of foods. Additionally,
it also can solve the problems of human resources and job-lost.
E: Thank you very much. It’s the end of our test.

  1. It's uncomfortable to listen to you as you speak unnaturally! You should more practise intonation when speaking English. More importantly, you sometimes forgot to pronounce ending sounds such as /s/ like "benefits", "recipes", "fruits", "retaurants", etc. Anyways, thanks for providing us with a lot of useful vocabulary and sample questions as well.
