HOW TO MAKE LULU CUPCAKES – NERDY NUMMIES

“You know, now that I think of it, I always
wanted to be a baker!” Ro: Hey guys, it’s Ro! Welcome to another
Nerdy Nummies! Today I have a special Ro: guest, Dyrus! Dyrus: Why hello there. Ro: Thank you for being here, I’m so excited
that he’s here, for those of you who Ro: don’t know, Dyrus is a pro gamer for
League of Legends. He plays for TSM. Ro: If you can’t read, Team SoloMid, awww. So, do you have any baking experience? Dyrus: Um, I almost burnt down our gaming
house once… Ro: That’s OK. Dyrus: When I put it in the microwave for
40 minutes. Ro: You put a meal in the microwave for 40
minutes? Dyrus: It was an accident… Ro: Today we are gonna be making Lulu cupcakes.
I got so many requests for these, Ro: and I thought, who better to come help
me than dis guy! Yeah! Dyrus: Yay! Ro: Let’s get started! Ro: The things you will need, will be: 1 teaspoon
of baking powder, 1/4 a teaspoon Ro: of salt, 2 cups of all purpose, just regular
flour, 1 cup of butter, which is Ro: 2 sh-ticks of butter, 1/2 a teaspoon of
vanilla extract, 1-1/2 cups of sugar, Ro: just regular sugar. 1/4 cup of whole milk
and 1/2 a cup of fresh blueberry Ro: puree. This puree actually took like 40
minutes, it’s really, really cool, I’ll show you Ro: guys how to do it, it’s so yummy! It’s
1/2 a cup, that’s all you need. Dyrus: You will also need 2 eggs, they kind
of look like dinosaur eggs, I’ve never seen Dyrus: those eggs before, but, those are 2
eggs, and this is apparently called a sifter. Ro: Yeah a sifter! Dyrus: It looks like a
silver cup. And we need a bowl, well Dyrus: it’s actually 2 bowls. Ro: Yeah 2
bowls. Dyrus: I didn’t know that. Dyrus: And then we have the cupcake tray and
these little things, that, uh, Dyrus: I’ve never, the only thing that I’ve
ever seen in the ingredients are Dyrus: these because all I’m doing is eating
them. Ro: A-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Yeah, cupcake
liners! They’re really really handy, Ro; so you can hold the cupcake and om-nom-nom-nom-nom! Ro: Alright, let’s put it all together! Ro: To make blueberry puree, you’re gonna
take 1 pound of fresh blueberries, Ro: and pour them into a medium sized saucepan
and bring them to a boil. Ro: I like to stir them with a big wooden
spoon so that the berries won’t burn, Ro: As the berries heat up on the stove they
turn into a liquid form and that’s Ro: what we want! Once the blueberries begin
to boil, reduce the heat to low and Ro: then let them simmer for about 40 minutes. Ro: Now pour the blueberry mixture into a
blender and blend for a few seconds. Ro: Once blended, pour through a sieve into
a bowl to make smooth strained Ro: blueberry puree, and measure 1/2 a cup
for the recipe. Ro: I’m also super excited because I finally,
finally after years of baking, Ro: finally got a Kitchenaid, so, this is
the first time I’m ever using it, Ro: but I figured we could figure it out together…
Right? I’ll go get it. Dyrus: Great… Ro: Hahahaha! Ro: It’s so heavy! Ro: The first thing that you want to do is
cream your butter and your sugar. Ro: So we’ve gotta get these in the bowl,
that’s our goal. Ro: OK, do you want to try and open that?
Or… Ro: OH! Dyrus: OK. Ro: Lift it up, alright
we did it! Ro: This is, we’re off to a good start,
alright. Dyrus: Already leveled up. Ro: I’ll let you pour in the sugar. Dyrus:
All of it? Ro: All the sugar. Dyrus: Really? Ro: Just pour it all in. Dyrus:
Wow. Ro: Then we’re gonna add our butter, and
you gotta unwrap it. This is soft butter Ro: you want to leave it out to be room
temperature so it’s nice and soft, Dyrus: Which speed? Ro: You’re just gonna
whip it together until everything is Ro: light and fluffy and… This speed is
from 2-10, I’m gonna pick, let’s do 6! Dyrus: OK… Ro: Let’s see what happens! Ro: You can do it, I have faith, this is gonna
work. Ro: Whoa-ah-ohhhhh! OK, maybe not 6, maybe
4, 4 is a good one! Ro: 4… Ro: Whoa, check that out prefect! Ro: Our butter and sugar is nice and light
and fluffy, and now we’re gonna Ro: add eggs, 1 at a time. Ro: Do yo know how to do a 1 handed egg crack?
Dyrus: No… Ro: Oh my gosh, OK, I’ll do the first 1, and
then Dyrus is gonna do the second 1. Ro: So we’re gonna add these 1 at a time, so
this is how you do it, you hold it in Ro: your hand and you hit and twist. Hit,
twist! Dyrus: So you hit, and then twist? Ro: Yeah,
hit, crack, and then twist Ro: with your hand… Hee-hee-hee-hee-hee! Dyrus: Don’t worry… Ro: If a little bit
of shell falls in it’s OK, we’re gonna Ro: blend it, no one will be able to notice. Dyrus: So now that this is mixed, we’ll
start sifting our flower. I still don’t Dyrus: know what this is, and what sifting
means, but I’m about to find out. Ro: Yeah, I’m gonna teach you. So, in 1
of your extra bowls, we’re gonna sift Ro: all of our flour, so hold this over the
bowl, OK, and I’m gonna scoop this Ro: in there. This is just to make sure everything
is really finely grated, Ro: there’s no chunks. And then you’re
gonna take this little wheel, and Ro: spin it around, it’s a little noisy. Ro: Boom! Now you’re gonna put in your other
dry ingredients like baking powder and salt! Dyrus: And now that we have our mountain of
powdery looking salt, we are now going Dyrus: to mix this. Ro: There you go, mix
it all together. Dyrus: I’m not sure if I’m doing this
right… Ro: That’s good whisking! Ro: Alright, in our second bowl we are going
to mix together all the wet Ro: ingredients. We’re gonna start with
our whole milk. Ro: Mewp! Ro: Then you’re gonna pour in the blueberry,
fresh blueberry puree. Dyrus: Wow… Ro: Puree! Pur… Yes! Ro: Now vanilla extract. Ro: We’re about to combined our wet and
dry ingredients, so let’s put our Ro: thinking caps on! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Ro: This is not Lulu’s bittersweet skin,
that would have been absolutely perfect, Ro: but I thought this would… It’s Lulu’s
cupcakes right, so this still Ro: kind of works right? Dyrus: You’ll have
your own special skin. Ro: Yeah I have my own skin. Ro: Alright, let’s put these together! First,
let’s start with putting a little bit of wet. Ro: Here we go, meeeee! Ro: Alright, then mix it up! Put it on speed
4. Ro: Then you’re just gonna alternate and
add the dry ingredients, and keep Ro: going back and forth until all of your
mixtures are gone. Ro: We’ve got our batter all mixed together,
it’s all evenly combined, Ro: it smells so good! That looks great! OK,
what you’re gonna do is take a Ro: tablespoon scoop, this is what I like
to do, and you’re gonna do 2 scoops in Ro: every cupcake tray. And you can just use
your finger, just wash your hands Ro: you want it to be 2/3 full. Ro: Once you got your cupcake trays all filled,
you’re gonna heat your oven Ro: to 350 and you’re gonna bake these for about 18 minutes. Ro: OK, while our cupcakes are in the oven baking, we’re gonna be makeing a made from scratch Ro: blackberry buttercream frosting. Dyrus:
Wow. Ro: Yum-yum-yum-yum! Ro: Because it should be like a light pink color,
that’s what I’m going for. Ro: So, OK, the first thing that we’re gonna
do is zest our lemon. Ro: I’m gonna let you do this, it’s kind
of like a cheese grater, you’re gonna Ro: take the lemon and then kinda grade lightly. Ro: Yeah nice! That’s looking good! Now,
while he’s doing that, I’m gonna show Ro: you guys how to make a little bit of blackberry
puree over in the kitchen. Ro: To make quick blackberry puree you’re
gonna take 8 ounces of fresh blackberries Ro: and microwave them for 30 seconds, this
will make them warm and soft. Ro: Then pour them into a sieve with a large
spoon and mash them up and let Ro: the liquid drain through into the bowl.
Measure out a 1/4 a cup of the Ro: strained blackberry puree for the recipe. Ro: So now we got our puree. Dyrus: And we
got a little bit of lemon zest here, Dyrus: with a little bit of Ro’s right thumb,
a very rare ingredient found Dyrus: across the lands. I do not recommend
putting a little bit of Ro’s Dyrus: right thumb into the lemon zest. Ro: First blood! Ro: Yeah, whoopsies! Oh well, cheers! We got
all of our ingredients, and now Ro: we’re gonna beat together 1 cup of butter
in a mixing bowl. Ro: Once your butter is whipped together,
we’re gonna add the lemon zest. Ro: Go for it! And blackberry puree. Merp,
for color! Ro: Last but not least, you’re gonna take
5 cups of powdered sugar, and gradually Ro: add them to our mixture as we mix. Alright,
let’s get started. You start Ro: mixing, and I’ll add. Dyrus: OK. Ro: OK. Dyrus: Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Ro: Boom! Our frosting is all done, we’re
just gonna take this and put it in Ro: a plastic bag with a big tip, and now,
it’s time to decorate! Dyrus: Yay! Ro: Yay! Ro: Our cupcakes are fresh out of the oven,
yum, yum, yum! They’ve cooled Ro: a little bit so they’re ready to decorate.
We are gonna decorate these Ro: things. I’m gonna teach you how to frost
a cupcake. Dyrus: Wonderful… Ro: The tip I’m using on the bag is 807,
it’s just a big, round, smooth tip. Ro: OK, so this is the technique, are you
ready? Dyrus: Yeah. Ro: OK, I’m training you right now, we’re
gonna start on the outside, and you Ro: just squeeze gently, and you go all the
way around, kind of outlining the Ro: cupcake. Dyrus: Wow. Ro: And then you come
in, roooooooo, boom! Dyrus: It looks like a real cupcake. Ro: If it looks funny, it’s fine, because
when Lulu turns people into cupcakes they Ro: look terrified, so, uh, anything you do
is gonna look great. Ro: Nice. Right on! Look at that! Dyrus: Not
bad if I say so myself! Ro: That is not bad, his first cupcake that
he ever frosted. Look at that. Ro: Now to make the little eyes, I got this
little pack of flat eyeballs from Ro: Wilton, this was just at the grocery store,
but instead of using the big Ro: eyeball side we’re gonna flip them over
and put them on the cupcake with Ro: The white side showing. Because in the
game they have little eyeballs like this. Ro: Little eyeballs, so we’re gonna draw
it on with a little bit of black frosting. Ro: Ta-da, let’s see these little faces,
we’re gonna turn them around. Ro: A-ha-ha-ha-ha! Dyrus: A little bit of
this guy wanted a piece of the other guy, Dyrus: so they kind of, uh… Ro: Here I’ll
help ya. Ro: OK, so we’re gonna take a little bit
of sprinkles, these are just multicolored Ro: rainbow sprinkles, and we’re just gonna
take a little pinch, and sprinkle Ro: a few in the back. Ro: Are you ready for the last and final step
to decorate? Dyrus: Yeah… Ro: We’re almost there! We’re
gonna add the cherry on the top, Ro: these candy red maraschino cherries. Ro: So you can pick whichever one you’d
like, I just picked a few out Ro: so they’re ready and easy, and we’re
just gonna stick it right in the middle! Ro: And just push it down, boop, boop, boop! Ro: Ta-da! Ro: Here are our Lulu cupcakes, they’re
so good! Thanks for the suggestions you Ro: guys, I loved making these, oooooh! Thank
you Dyrus for being here, I had so Ro: much fun! Did you like it? Your first
baking experience? Dyrus: Yes it was wonderful, I didn’t burn
down the house or anything like that, Dyrus: so it was definitely a big upgrade
and… It was fun. Ro: You did good! Dyrus: Yeah it was great. Ro: He was safer than
I was today, I’m the one that hurt Ro: myself. Do you have a favorite cupcake
that you made? Ro: I think my favorite is this guy, I like
this guy. Dyrus: These 2. Ro: 1 of these guys? Oh man,
I think it’s this, this is my favorite. Ro: He makes me giggle! Ro: Again, I’ll put all of Dyrus’ links
down below so you can go check him out. Ro: The new season of League starts around
January, so I’ll be watching some Ro: E-Sports. And, if you have any other suggestions
for any other Nerdy Nummies, Ro: please let me know, leave a comment down
below and I will do my best Ro: to make it happen. OK, thanks you guys,
bye-bye!
