Succot Knit Fest

During Succot we sit in our Succah and its not a far leap to start thinking about people who do not have a safe, permenant home.  A small thing we can do is to sit and chat in our Succah while knitting woollen hats and scarves that can be given to homeless shelters during the cold months.
 
Hat Pattern
stitch: stocking stitch
wool: thick/chunky
tension: 5 stitches and 8 rows to 5 centimetres

height: 21 cm

needles: 9mm, 40cm circular needles

cast on: 48 stitches

 

rows 1, 3 and 5 should be knit

rows 2, 4 and 6 should be purl

row 7 onwards should be knit

 

when the hat is 14.5 cm high start to decrease for the crown

 

knit 4, knit 2 to end of the row (40 stitches)

Knit 3. knit 2 to end of the row (32 stitches)

knit 2, knit 2 to end of the row (24 stitches)

knit 1, knit 2 to end of the row (16 stitches)

knit 2 to end of the row (8 stitches)

 

draw the wool through the remaining stitches and pull tight, knot and weave it it.
